Jakarta

Jakarta is Indonesia’s metropolitan city. Most tourists make their stop in the Capital and prefer to explore other locations. Despite the crazy traffic in the city, Jakarta is dynamic and should not be missed when traveling. From the old city of Batavia with the great night market and historical district in Kotas that will take you back to the Dutch Colonial era, to exploring monuments and museums not to mention great food and shopping. Jakarta is full of rich history and culture.

Like many cities in Southeast Asia, Jakarta has just two seasons – wet and dry. The dry season is from June till September. Temperatures fluctuate a little over the year so the dry season is the best time to go sightseeing in the city.

One of the best things to do in Indonesia is to indulge in authentic food. In Jakarta, you’ll find a massive variety of food in most of their markets and restaurants. The choices of food are endless and it is impossible not to be tempted to indulge in Indonesia’s local food. I am sure you’ll find yourself treating a few sticks of satay, a famous meat skewer that originated from Java. Probably enjoy a buffet-style of enormous Nasi Padang that is full of spices and flavors or even fulfill your sweet cravings by trying out their legendary desserts. In terms of having incredible food experiences, Jakarta is the place to be!

Jakarta is one of South East Asia’s best shopping cities. There are countless shopping malls in Jakarta. South Jakarta is known for being the up-market place and Jakarta-elite’s residential district; opulent shopping malls, luxurious restaurants, grand hotels, bars and nightclubs, and also the city business center. Kemang is a street filled with lanes of the most popular fine dining restaurant, cocktail bars, nightclubs, and deluxe shops. Senopati has great chill-out places, lounges, markets, and a more relaxing ambiance. Sports lovers can enjoy the Senayan Sports Complex and its Gelanggang Bung Karno Stadium – Indonesia’s largest stadium. Jakarta has amazing rooftop bars, and you should enjoy a drink or two at one of the following: SKYE BAR (56th floor, Menara BCA), CLOUD LOUNGE (49th floor, The Plaza Building), AWAN LOUNGE (9th floor, Kosenda Hotel) or SOUPANOVA ECO SKY (23rd floor, GKM Tower).

When it comes to nightlife, Jakarta offers plenty of lively night experiences. From chill bars with cocktails to dancing to the beat in one of those clubs, Jakarta is a sure way for night entertainment. Clubs are sprouting almost now and then proposing a unique nightlife to everyone. Fantastic clubs include Jenja, Immigrant, Dragonfly, Blowfish, Colosseum, Empirica and the list could go on and on. Skye is a must to visit with an awesome skyscraper view of the city which reminded me of Heli Lounge in KL. Whatever clubs you choose either to meet new people, enjoy a cocktail, dance till the wee hours, or just simply party with friends, Jakarta will give you a memorable and who knows the best nightlife of your life!

Jakarta's favorite weekend-away destination is the nearby Thousand Islands. A jetty can reach this gorgeous off-shore archipelago in a short time from the Muara Karang Port, and they provide a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of Jakarta. Pulau Seribu Marine National Park offers an abundant coral reef ecosystem with exotic fish and sea turtles and a beautiful mangrove forest with radiant birds and reptiles. The visitors will find here top holiday resorts, restaurants, and multiple attractions, e.g. scuba diving and snorkeling, swimming, and other water sports.
