Malaysia Airlines commenced its inaugural flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Amritsar (ATQ) and Trivandrum (TRV) with a send-off event held at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Nov 8 and 9, 2023 respectively.

Flight MH118 bound for ATQ departed from KUL at 6:50 pm local time, whereas flight MH116 took off for TRV from KUL at 9:30 pm local time, after which both flights were greeted with a water salute upon arrival at the destination airports.

The introduction of two new routes expands Malaysia Airlines' point-to-point connectivity from Kuala Lumpur to India to eight key hubs, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi.

Following regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines (along with its sister carriers) will offer 'gate-to-gate' connectivity for passengers departing Malaysia on international flights. By enabling 'flight mode' on their device, passengers will no longer be required to switch off their PEDs during take-off and landing, as was previously required due to regulatory and aircraft requirements. Permitted PEDs for the service include mobile phones, tablets, and other small hand-held devices that are stowable in the passenger's seat pocket.

Beginning 01 July 2023, Malaysia Airlines passengers will also enjoy the convenience of staying connected via their personal electronic devices (PEDs) throughout their journey, from the moment they board the aircraft to arrival at their destination airport. However, only those passengers traveling in Business Suites and Business Class, in addition to Enrich Platinum loyalty customers, will be able to avail themselves of the new offering.

Malaysia Airlines will increase its flight frequency and use wide-body A330 aircraft on several routes in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak to ensure smooth and reliable connectivity for voters ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

In a statement on Saturday (Nov 12), the airline said it will increase the number of flights to 44 from 26, and upgrade from 16 to 24 domestic services on A330 craft.

The airline has raised its capacity by 30% for main domestic destinations within the peninsula, such as Penang and Kota Bharu, as well as Sabah and Sarawak, the statement said.

Those returning home on Nov 19 will also get a great fare on the one-way, all-inclusive fare starting at RM104 via the airline's "Jom Balik Mengundi" campaign for bookings made by Nov 19 — for travel from Nov 11 to 27 applied to all fare categories, including Lite, Basic, and Flex for the Economy Class, as well as Basic and Flex for the Business Class.

Malaysia Airlines will increase flights to Japan from next month. Starting November 1st, the airline will increase services from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) from twice-weekly to thrice-weekly and to Tokyo Narita (NRT) from five times a week to daily.

The airline has already increased its services to Osaka (KIX) from thrice weekly to five times a week as Japan has begun to relax its border policies to allow more international visitors.

Flight MH36 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to HND departs at 3pm, and the return leg MH37 departs from HND at 12.30am local time; MH88 from KUL to NRT departs at 11.35pm and MH89 departs from NRT at 10.05am local time. Effective immediately, passengers of Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and AMAL are no longer required to wear face masks onboard, except where compulsory in destination countries.

The relaxation of the face mask mandate follows the Ministry of Health Malaysia's guideline on 28 September 2022 to remove the mask requirement onboard commercial aircraft.

The wearing of face mask remains a requirement and mandatory for the following countries: Philippines; Vietnam; China; India; Indonesia; Nepal; Bangladesh; Qatar; Cambodia; and Myanmar.

Passengers to the above-mentioned countries are advised to bring their own face mask for their travel.

The use of face masks is ​however strongly recommended for the following group of passengers:

- Passengers with symptoms such as fever, cough and cold.

Malaysia Airlines marked another milestone in its network expansion plan by introducing a new direct flight between Kota Kinabalu and Singapore which commenced operations on 27 August 2022. The inaugural flight was commemorated with a welcome ceremony for passengers who arrived at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) at 12:25 pm local time via flight MH648 from Changi International Airport (SIN).

The airline will operate the direct flightsthree times weekly on Monday, Thursday and Saturday which will depart from BKI-SIN via MH647 at 07:00am and depart SIN-BKI via MH648 at 10:00am. 1. Download and update the MySejahtera app within a week before departing for Malaysia.

2. All foreign travellers must complete the pre-departure form via the “Traveller” icon in MySejahtera app. Effective 4 July 2022, Malaysian citizens returning from abroad are no longer required to fill the Travellers pass on the MySejahtera app:

a. Travellers with overseas-issued COVID-19 vaccine certificates must verify their digital COVID-19 vaccine certificates on MySafeTravel.

b. Fully vaccinated travellers will be issued a “Digital Traveller’s Card” and reflected on their MySejahtera app.

c. Partially or unvaccinated travellers will be issued a digital Home Surveillance Order (HSO) on their MySejahtera app.

d. Travellers who do not have a traveller card display, HSO instructions, and “High Risk” individuals on the MySejahtera app are not allowed to continue their journey.

3. The following traveller categories must undergo a professionally administered RTK-Antigen or RT-PCR test within two (2) days before departure to Malaysia. They are also required to take a professionally administered RTK-Antigen with a private health facility or clinics approved by MOH either physically or online within 24 hours upon arrival in Malaysia.

• Partially vaccinated and non-vaccinated travellers aged 18 years and above

4. These categories of travellers are exempted from the abovementioned (item 3) requirements:

• Fully vaccinated travellers aged 18 years and above
• Travellers who have recently recovered from COVID-19 within the past six (6) to 60 days
• Travellers aged 17 years and below (based on year of birth), regardless of their vaccination status

Note: The requirements and policies apply to all travellers including those travelling for Umrah, Hajj, and foreign workers. Umrah and Hajj travellers are required to get their COVID-19 vaccine booster dose prior to departure to Saudi Arabia.

We would like to announce that due to instructions from Heathrow Airport Authority, MH1 on 20 July 2022 will be rescheduled to depart 3.35 hours EARLIER than the normal published schedule departure time. The new departure time will depart at 18:00 on 20 July.

Apart from the retiming of Malaysia Airlines MH1 on 20 July, other flights between Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur operated by MH2, MH3 and MH4 remain status quo, unless updated from time to time.

Given the earlier departure time, passengers departing from Heathrow are advised to arrive at Terminal 4, three hours ahead of the scheduled departure time to ensure a seamless journey.

Passengers are to take note of the following:

• Check-in counters will close 60 minutes before the flight departure
• Immigration and security clearance is estimated to take around 45 minutes. Please ensure to bring the required travelling documents.
• The boarding gate will close 30 minutes prior to flight departure

- Unvaccinated visa holders do not​ need a travel exemption to travel to Australia

- Masks are still required on flights travelling to Australia.

Below are the travel requirements for travellers to Malaysia:

I. Before departure to Malaysia

1. Download and update the MySejahtera app within a week of departure for Malaysia.

2. Declare information before departure via MySejahtera app

- For fully vaccinated travellers, an electronic travel card will be issued

- Partially or unvaccinated travellers will be issued a digital Home Surveillance Order (HSO) and it will be reflected on their MySejahtera app.

3. Travellers aged seven (7) years and above must take RT-PCR test two days before departure to Malaysia and upload the results on MySejahtera

Post COVID-19 patient with infection between 6 to 60 days before departure must undergo a professional RTK-Antigen test 2 days before departure.

4. Buy travel insurance and COVID-19 insurance (for passengers who are NOT Malaysian, minimum coverage of 20,000 USD)

II. Upon arrival in Malaysia

1. Do a rapid test for RTK-Ag antigen within 24 hours when arriving.

2. Mandatory 5-day isolation for passengers who have not been vaccinated or have not received a full dose of COVID-19 Vaccine

• A fare difference may apply for subsequent changes if your new travel date's fare is higher than the original ticket fare purchased. Fares will be reassessed at the time of your rebooking.

• Applicable for tickets issued for travels between 1 January 2020 to 30 October 2021 only.
• A travel voucher/open ticket will be issued for your next travel to be booked by 30 June 2022 for travel to be completed by 31 December 2022.

Effective 11 October 2021, all fully vaccinated individuals* are allowed to travel within Malaysia without requiring any police permit. Children or dependent aged 17 years old and below must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or legal guardian. However, travels to Sabah and Sarawak are subject to the State Disaster Management Committee’s travelling requirement.

*Fully vaccinated individuals are those who have fulfilled these criteria:

i. 14 days after the second dose of two-dose vaccines from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Sinopharm and Sinovac

ii. 28 days after a single dose from Johnson & Johnson and CanSinoBio

Passengers must also ensure these criteria are fulfilled prior to travelling:

i. MySejahtera status remains low risk or casual contact with no symptoms.

ii. Resides in non-enhanced MCO area.

iii. Does not carry any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, and others.

2.  Exit Requirements for Malaysians to Travel Abroad

i. Effective 11 October 2021, all Malaysians who have been fully vaccinated are allowed to travel abroad without presenting the MyTravelPass approval.

ii. Children or dependent, 17 years old and below must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or legal guardian.

iii. Travellers are to refer to destination country travel rules to understand the specific requirements (such as COVID-19 testing or quarantine measures) as these may differ according to each country’s own risk assessments.

Malaysia Airlines is delighted to announce the re-opening of its Domestic Golden Lounge at KL International Airport (KLIA) beginning 29 October 2021. The airline's latest move comes after a steady growth in passenger volume and strong demand for lounge offerings following the relaxation of interstate travel ban and the upcoming year-end holidays.

Its two other flagship lounges at the Regional and Satellite terminals will be reopened in stages, after having been closed for more than a year to abide by the no dine-in rule imposed since the first Movement Control Order in Malaysia.

The re-opening of the Domestic Golden Lounge is timely in conjunction with the upcoming Festival of Lights that comes with a celebratory menu featuring Chicken Biryani and assorted traditional Indian delicacies that will be served from 29 October until 4 November 2021. Guests can also look forward to their favourite meal from a wide array of authentic Malaysian cuisine including nasi lemak, chicken congee, laksa, Malay kuih-muih and assorted desserts as well as teh tarik and barista style coffee, freshly prepared and made available through a contactless digital meal ordering service at the lounge.

Passengers departing from/arriving in the UK must provide COVID-19 negative test results upon departure/arrival.

It is important to note that, when you re ordering the testing kits, you will need to purchase one for all passengers on your booking – unless they are exempt from testing due to their age. You cannot opt to order one for some passengers on the booking, and not for others. You can order 10 pre-departure testing kits and only one day 2&8 and any Travel Pack per transaction, so you will need to carry out multiple transactions if you are travelling as a party larger than this.  ​

Kits are sent out by Randox for next-day delivery to your home – as long as you order by 12pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays in Northern Ireland. Please allow two business days for your home testing kit to arrive.  ​
